Hello Term 3

Focus for Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope you all had wonderful holidays. This will be another busy term, so please keep an eye on the class notice board for upcoming events.

This term, we have an increased focus on writing. We will be doing daily writing focusing on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces between words. We are also doing formal handwriting lessons, learning to write upper and lower-case letters in Victorian Modern Cursive. This can be very tricky, so if you would like to practice at home with your child, it would help.

We are still making our way through the first 100 Sitton sight words. At this stage, we have covered the Golden, Red, Blue and Green words in class. We learn our sight words through warm ups, sight word readers, paragraph books, literacy rotations and guided reading. Your child also has a sight word folder that they can use to continue practicing the sight words at home.

We are also learning our end blends this term. End blends are two letters that join together, you hear both sounds e.g. ft as in left. You can help your child by generating words that end with the following blends: ft, ld, lt, mp, nd, ng, nk, nt, sk, sp, st.

In Mathematics, we will continue learning about addition and subtraction for numbers to 10. We are learning the concept of part, part, whole e.g. 5 (whole) is 4 (part) and 1 (part), or 5 (whole) is 3 (part) and 2 (part).

In Week 10, parents will be invited to attend a Learning Journey in the classroom with their child. As a parent, this is an opportunity to see what your child has been learning all term. Your child will be responsible for explaining their learning to you.

NAIDOC Week

During Week 2, we celebrated NAIDOC Week. We participated in a NAIDOC Incursion where we learnt about bush tucker and the 6 seasons that Aboriginal people recognize. In class, we read lots of Dreamtime stories, and wrote about the story Tiddalick. Our buddies from Year 6 came to visit and we made damper together and did Aboriginal dot painting. It was lots of fun, but very messy! The damper tasted very yummy.

Faction T-shirts

Students are allowed to wear their coloured faction t-shirts every Friday. If you do not know which faction your child is in, please ask. The school uniform shop sells faction t-shirts. The uniform shop is open on Thursdays from 8.30-9.00am and Fridays from 3.00-3.30pm.

K/PP Tabloid Day

Weather permitting, the K/PP Tabloid Day will be help on Wednesday 29th August at 1.30pm. All students from Kindergarten and Pre-primary are invited to attend. The students will participate in a number of activities, earning points for their faction. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms as normal, at 3.05pm. It is a really fun afternoon, and we invite all parents to come and spectate.

Faction Carnival Running Races

The whole school Faction Carnival will be held on Friday 31st August. The Pre-primaries will compete in flat races on the morning of the carnival. We would love for parents to come and watch.

School Uniform

Just a reminder that students need to be wearing correct school uniform every day. This includes hair accessories that need to be the school colours of green and gold. Socks need to be black or white, as do shoes. We are very proud of our school uniform and appreciate your support in making sure that all students are dressed correctly.

No Trash Tuesday

On Tuesdays, we are trying to encourage students to have no plastic rubbish in their lunch box. You can help by packing your child's lunch in re-useable containers. As a class, we receive 1 point for every child that has no rubbish. The class with the highest number of points at the end of the term receive a trophy. Let's go, Room 5!

Room 3 and 5 Assembly

On Thursday 30th August, Week 7, Room 3 and Room 5 will be presenting the Junior Primary Assembly. We would love parents to come and watch! If your child has a speaking part, it will be sent home in their reading file for them to practice. We look forward to performing for you ☺
