Welcome Back!

From Miss Baines

It is so lovely to see everyone back in the classroom. Thank you very much to all the parents for your continued support over the last few weeks. We understand that this has been a challenging time and we could not have made it through without you all doing your part.

Thank you to all the parents and students who completed work from the Online Work Packages. I can see that for the majority of the students, they have been working hard whilst not at school.

I want to congratulate all the Room 5 students. They have all demonstrated amazing independence with the new arrangements in place for school drop off and pick up. In the classroom, it is like they never left, getting straight back into the routines of school.

Thank you also to the parents, who are demonstrating wonderful patience at drop off and pick up time. We understand that it takes time to match all the students with their parents, and we appreciate your support.

As we are still not able to have face to face parent meetings, if you need to get in contact with me, please phone the school and leave a message and I will call you back, or send me an email. You can also put a note in your child's reading folder.

I will continue to post information on this blog, so check in here for the latest updates.

Homework

In order to minimise contact of items from home to school, we have made some slight changes to your child's homework.

Sight word folders:

These word folders will now be for use at home and do not need to be returned to school on a weekly basis. We will use a duplicate copy in class. Children's recognition of learnt sight words will still be tested weekly in class. To support their learning of these words it is important that you revise the sight words each day. Move through one list at a time before progressing to the next.

Just for this coming week (5) please send in your child's sight word folder so we can prepare this to be used at home.

In class your child has been taught all golden and red words, with a focus now on blue words and beyond. If your child has not yet mastered golden and red words, please continue to support them with learning these.

Home readers:

Each child will take home one book per week. These books will usually come home on a Wednesday or Thursday after they have been read in class.  It is very important that this reading book is returned back to school every Monday as it is needed for other students in class. The books (Keylinks) use sight words to assist reading and focus on answering comprehension questions. These books have some suggested comprehension questions that you can ask your child during reading.

Additional homework activities:

If you are looking for some additional activities for your child you could use the following;
  • Study Ladder- logins were emailed to you.
  • The fast five literacy and fast five numeracy that were in the week 1&2 Home Learning Packages. These can be used to revise key literacy and numeracy concepts.
  • Encourage children to write the golden and red words in short sentences.
If you have any questions or concerns please get in contact.

Thank you for supporting your child's learning.

Room 5 Assembly

Friday of Week 3 would have been our assembly. We were going to be performing with the students from Room 3. As we could not hold our assembly like normal, we have made a little video for you to watch. We have also uploaded our WOW Writing, so that you can see how well we did. A big congratulations to Archer, for receiving the Science award, Divsaanjh, for receiving the Values award, and Olivia, Nicholas , Theo and Jasmine, for receiving Merit awards.

No Trash Tuesday

Just a reminder that on Tuesdays, we are encouraging the students to come to school with a waste free lunch box. This means no rubbish that ends up in landfill. (Fruit scrapes are fine, as we can feed them to the worms in our school worm farm). No Trash Tuesday is a whole school approach as part of our Sustainability program.

School Uniform

With colder mornings now in place, we understand that the students are wearing warmer clothes. Just a reminder that if your child wishes to wear items like coats, jumpers, tights, beanies, scarves or gloves, these need to be green, in line with the school uniform. Shoes still need to be black or white. The uniform shop remains open via the School App. If you go online, you can order uniform items, which will be delivered to your child's classroom and sent home in their school bag. Thank you for your support with ensuring your child wears the correct school uniform.
